Leave enough room for the addition
A margin or an unused line often works well for a reference such as a project code. Position values use PDF points; 72 points are about one inch. Start with a short addition and check the page at a readable scale. Existing paragraphs do not move aside, so a note placed inside a table can cover neighboring labels or figures.
Choose between adding and replacing
Use this tool when the information is new. If an existing date or name is wrong, use text replacement or the editor's text controls instead. Placing new text over an old sentence does not remove that sentence from the file. For substantial new paragraphs, editing the source document usually gives more control over line wrapping, page breaks and a consistent typeface.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the text not fit?
The available area may be too narrow or close to the page edge. Shorten the addition or choose a position with more space, then check the result again.
Does this create a field that someone else can fill in?
No. The addition becomes page content. Use the form tool if recipients need an interactive text field or checkbox in their PDF viewer.
