Make the question specific to what you need
A question such as What payment deadline does the proposal specify? gives a clearer direction than What matters here? Include a section or a distinctive phrase when possible. Start with the summary if you first need a general overview. You can also ask questions in the document chat; text answers and proposed editing steps serve different purposes there and should be reviewed accordingly.
Understand the available source material
The assistant works with text from the currently open document. For long files it selects relevant passages and displays a notice about that limitation. It does not search a collection of other PDFs or automatically read images as text. Run OCR first for supported scans. If no matching information is found, check spelling, text quality and the original page; a missing answer does not prove the information is absent.
Frequently asked questions
Will asking a question edit my PDF?
The question task returns a text answer and leaves the PDF pages unchanged. Editing instructions in the document chat are separately prepared as steps for review before application.
Can I rely on calculated totals or a complete account?
Check these particularly carefully. Selected passages can omit relevant rows, and extracted tables can lose their arrangement. Compare the actual values in the original document.
